‘Next’ Plan a Move to Eagles Meadow Shopping Centre

Thu, 24 May 2007

‘Next’ retail signed contracts with Wilson Bowden Developments this week on a 30,000 sq ft store within the new Eagles Meadow shopping centre in Wrexham.

‘Next’ is the latest in a growing list of impressive key high street operators to have signed up to the new Scheme, which includes anchor stores Debenhams and Marks and Spencers.

‘Next’, who are currently trading in Hope Street and Border Retail Park in Wrexham, will significantly increase the size of their existing stores with this new signing. This news comes as yet another boost for Wrexham as Marks and Spencer confirmed in December that they would more than double the size of their existing store by relocating to Eagles Meadow next year.

Commenting on this latest announcement David Hunt, Regional Property Manager for ‘Next’ retail said: “Eagles Meadow is a prime retail opportunity for us; the development allows us to remain trading within Wrexham on a larger scale and enhance the size of our current ranges.”

David Wilford, Development Manager for Wilson Bowden Developments said: “We are delighted to have signed a deal with ‘Next’, adding yet another major player to what is proving to be an impressive line up of retailers for Eagles Meadow”.

Once open Eagles Meadow is projected to increase the catchment of Wrexham by 39% elevating it in to the top 80 UK retail destinations.

David Wilford added: “We are now well underway with our lettings programme and are confident of securing other major operators to enhance the retail offer in Wrexham even further”.

The 400,000 sq ft Eagles Meadow scheme is being developed by Wilson Bowden Developments as part of a partnership with Wrexham County Borough Council. Just last month Wilson Bowden Developments announced the signing with Marks and Spencers to a 55,000 sq ft store to compliment Debenhams commitment to a 90,000 sq ft store.

Eagles Meadow offers more than just retail; a 24 lane tenpin bowling will anchor a leisure offering with units also available for cafes and restaurants. A 1,000 space covered car park will service the development and 44 residential apartments provided by Wilson Bowden City Homes will be built within the scheme.

Construction of the development has already commenced with the shopping centre planned for opening Autumn 2008. Lettings are being handled by Jones Lang LaSalle and Cushman & Wakefield.
